DSPconfig v1.6 and Firmware v1.7

DSPconfig v1.6 is now available, together with firmware v1.7 for the DSP-8C. This is more of a tidy up release following the much larger release a couple of weeks ago, which fixes a couple of small regressions and adds a couple of longstanding display enhancements.

Firmware v1.6 removed the 4,096 tap limit on each individual output channel and replaced it with a single pool shared across all output channels. This adds a bit of overhead to the processing pipeline, so a drop in maximum taps shared across the output channels passed by without raising our suspicions. A customer queried this and, upon further investigation, we realised that we had in fact forgotten to re-enable a performance flag on the ADSP-21565's FIR accelerator. With that one change, this release now sees the maximum number of taps on the output channels rise back to 36,864 at 96kHz and 18,432 at 192kHz.

There are also two improvements to the front display panel that have been introduced following popular request. The first is that individual profiles are now referred to by their customised nickname, as configured in DSPconfig. Previously, the front panel would unconditionally refer to the active profile based on its slot number, i.e. "Profile 1", "Profile 2", etc. Now, when the profile is renamed in DSPconfig, for example to "3-way FIR", the front panel will now faithfully say "3-way FIR", too.

There is also now the ability to change what is displayed on the default front panel overview screen. Up to this point, the screen has always shown volume, active profile and current audio source. Now, you can set it to show just the volume, in a large font. You can acecss this option by navigating to the settings on the unit itself (with the remote or the rotary encoder), or you can find the setting in DSPconfig under the Device > Settings menu.

A small collection of minor graphical fixes have been added to DSPconfig, and we've also fixed an issue where some Windows users needed to unplug/replug their DSP before it would show up in DSPconfig.

Firmware v1.7 is delivered as an in-app update, from the 'Device > Firmware...' menu in this version of DSPconfig.

DSPconfig itself remains a free download for Windows, macOS and Linux, and does not need a unit attached to try out. The full changelog lists everything in both releases.
