DSPconfig 26.9.1 and Firmware v1.9

DSPconfig 26.9.1 is now available, together with firmware v1.9 for the DSP-8C. It builds upon DSPconfig 26.9.0, primarily fixing a bug where a firmware upgrade could fail if the device was connected to a slow USB link.

The full changelog lists everything in this release, and the main changes are as follows.

Safer firmware upgrades

DSPconfig now checks the USB connection before it starts an upgrade. Over a connection slower than high speed it refuses to upgrade firmware, or to read or write profiles, and suggests trying a different cable or port and connecting directly rather than through a hub.

In firmware 1.9, the DSP now reports each stage of an upgrade as it happens and DSPconfig shows which stage it has reached, rather than estimating from a timer.

If an upgrade is interrupted, whether by closing DSPconfig, unplugging the cable or anything else, the display shows "Upgrade interrupted" and the overview screen carries an "Upgrade needed" marker. DSPconfig picks the upgrade up the next time the DSP connects and offers to retry. A failed upgrade now has a Retry button.

Units that left the factory with firmware 1.5

DSP-8Cs that left the factory with firmware 1.5 carry a built-in recovery image too old to start current firmware. When a device with older factory firmware is upgraded to v1.9 or beyond, an extra step is taken to update the recovery image, too.

Other changes

Firmware 1.9 also fixes some USB edge cases that could sometimes leave the device needing to be power cycled for the computer to properly communicate with it.

If you are already on 26.9.0, 26.9.1 arrives through 'Help > Check for Updates...' on macOS and Windows, and through apt upgrade or dnf upgrade on Linux. Otherwise, DSPconfig is a free download for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Firmware v1.9 is delivered as an in-app update, from the 'Device > Firmware...' menu in this version of DSPconfig.
